Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy Local Authority in Southeast England, are looking for an experienced Principal Solicitor to join their team and play a crucial role in their Resources and Organisational Development operations. 

Position: Principal Solicitor - Litigation
Rate: £55 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (6 Months) with Possible Extension 
Working Arrangement: 1 day per week in the office

Job Purpose: 

• Ensuring decisions made by all parts of the Council are legally robust and bearing statutory responsibility for the legal governance of the Council. 

Job Responsibilities: 

• Provide legal advice, representation, and assistance across the Council to Members and staff colleagues on all necessary aspects of licensing, environmental health, housing, property litigation, criminal prosecutions, debt recovery, judicial review, regulatory, and general litigation matters including at court, committees and public meetings where required.
• Contribute to, and assist in, the effective operational management of the Legal Services team to deliver a high quality and cost-effective legal service.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 1 year experience within a Senior Economic Development Officer role or equivalent.
• Fully qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive/Relevant professional qualification (Essential).
• Membership of any other relevant professional bodies (Desirable).
• Working knowledge of managing complex matters in the various areas of specialism in a local government context, in particular environmental health, licensing, housing, judicial review, and both civil and criminal Litigation (Essential).
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
