Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Essex, are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to join their team and play a crucial role in their Human Resources operations. 

Position: HR Business Partner (Pensions)
Rate: £55.50 per Hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35) 
Contract Duration: Temporary (April 2026) Possible Extension   

Purpose:

• Provide specialist leadership and governance for all pension and medical retirement processes and related matters to ensure fair, timely and compliant decisions under the Police Pension Schemes and LGPS, manage complex casework and support Scheme Managers with statutory responsibilities, and maintains effective operation of the Pension Boards.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Manage and resolve complex pension and medical retirement casework, ensuring full compliance with the Pension Scheme and LGPS regulations including overseeing medical appeals, discretionary pension decisions, forfeiture cases, IDRP complaints, and ill health retirement assessments. Develop, apply and promote effective policies, procedures and governance standards to deliver a consistent, equitable and professional HR and pensions advisory service. 
• Develop, analyse, and interpret medical retirement related data, management information and employee feedback to identify trends and issues to shape people and pensions interventions regarding medical retirement ensuring strategic objectives are met.
• Manage the work of an HR & Pension Adviser, allocating work and balancing work loads, managing performance and quality assuring service provision, to provide a high quality and effective centralised HR service to the forces.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 1 year experience within a HR Business Partner role or equivalent.
• Educated to degree level (or possessing equivalent degree level experience).
• The postholder will also hold a payroll/pension/HR qualification such as CIPP, PMI or equivalent, or MCIPD.
• Demonstrate a proven track record of over 10 years’ experience in pensions governance, policy development, and the management of statutory pension responsibilities
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
