Job Role: Principle Engineer
Temporary or Permanent: Temp
Possible End Date: 3 - 6  months (possible extension)
Number of Positions: 1 position
Location: Huddersfield
Rate of Pay: £30.49 - £45.70 p/h umbrella
Ideally local candidate to come into office once a week on a Tuesday but flexible for the right candidate.

Short Summary:
Principle Engineer - section 38 is quite a niche area of Highways Design as this is the mechanism in the highways act that deals with highways adoption, may include residential and commercial and typically working with residential home builders who may not specialise in building roads.

Working with highways consultants and covering all aspects; drainage, utilities. My team work with these consultants to check designs and help them to deliver an adoptable scheme as we have standards on how roads should be built. 

Produce technical audits on design proposals and return to them with feedback on changes required - depending on submission this could be done 2-3 times, poor designs 6-7 which can be quite challenging.

We're after a Principle Engineer who is able to go through this negotiation process and has the competency to check highways designs and have the confidence to go back to consultants and tell them where shortcomings may be. 
 
Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 2 years experience within a Principle Engineer or equivalent 
• Technical knowledge and understanding for a range highway related schemes including safety, legislative, regulatory, and legal requirements, as well as contractual, industry standards, policy and relevant procedures and protocols and knowledge of how local government operates.
• Hold a Degree or Master in Civil Engineering or related discipline or proven ability to work at that level.
• Have the competence to use IT systems including, Microsoft Office suite, GIS based mapping systems, and an understanding of AutoCAD.
• Hold a full and valid driving licence and be willing to undertake and pass a Council driving test and travel between sites using a Council vehicle.
