Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy Local Authority in Surrey, are looking for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team and play a crucial role in their private sector housing service area. 

Position: Private Sector Housing Officer
Rate: £37 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (May 2026) with Possible Extension 

Job Purpose: 

• To carry out investigations in relation to private sector housing and instigate enforcement action when necessary, according to legislation, statutory guidance and relevant enforcement policy.
  

Job Responsibilities: 

• Acting as the primary point of contact for private landlords and letting agents, building relationships, and proactively sourcing available properties to meet council housing needs.
• Undertaking initial property inspections to ensure the accommodation is safe, fit for human habitation, and meets the required standards (e.g., using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System - HHSRS).
• Negotiating rental values (often to align with Local Housing Allowance rates) and promoting council incentives, such as rent bond schemes or one-off payments, to secure properties.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• At least 1 year experience within a Private Sector Housing Officer role or equivalent.
• Certificate of competency for the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). 
• Full Driving Licence
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
