JOB SUMMARY
The Conference Chair / Independent Reviewing Officer is responsible to chair child protection conferences and statutory reviews for looked after children in accordance with the Children Act 1989, Independent Reviewing Officer Guidance, requirements of the Children and Adoption Act 2002, Care Planning Regulations & Independent Reviewing Officer Handbook 2010, Children Leaving Care Act 2000, Children Act 2004, Working Together 2018, and develop outcome focused plans.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:  

• To manage the child protection conference decision making process and in the absence of a majority decision take the decision regarding the need for children and young people to be made the subject of child protection plans.
• To implement the guidance from the IRO Handbook statutory guidance for independent reviewing officer and local authorities in relation to case management and review for looked after children. 
• To undertake a quality assurance role in relation to children in need, children in need of protection, and looked after children, by actively monitoring practice standards, systems and processes and identifying any practice deficits in order to improve service delivery for children, young people and their families.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:

• A professional social work qualification i.e. Degree/DipSW, CQSW  or equivalent with post qualification professional training, i.e. PQ, CCA, ASW.
• Must have Social Work England registration and relevant Management Training.
• Must have substantial post qualifying experience in Children’s social care, including Child Protection and / or Looked After Children with a recent proven track record of demonstrably improving outcomes for children.
