Job Role: Finance Manager
Temporary or Permanent: Perm
Location: Bristol
Rate of Pay: £57,884 per annum
Office Based/Hybrid: 1 day a month in the office
Short Brief/Requirement:
Looking for two new, permanent Finance Managers for Children and Education team. The Children and Education Directorate supports all children's services in Bristol, from children in care, asylum seekers and fostering in Social Care, to schools, special education needs, adult education, admissions and transport within Education Services. The work within the directorate is focussed on supporting children and families wherever they are in the city.
Role Purpose:
To provide financial advice and guidance to managers to improve business performance and the delivery of the corporate vision, priorities & values.
To take a proactive approach in managing and delivering timely financial and management accounting services including budgeting, medium- and long-term financial planning, project support, forecasting, in-year financial reporting and control.
Key Responsibilities:
- To assist in the preparation of information for officers, elected members and the public in relation to financial issues & collaborate with external partners and agencies as required.
- Undertake appropriate development work as required in response to changing financial regimes, new government legislation & initiatives and to determine the financial implications of policy changes/decisions.
- Manage & motivate staff assigned to the post, ensuring robust management and supervisory practices are undertaken, learning & development proactively supported and to provide coaching and mentoring as appropriate.
- Develop & support on the detailed revenue and/or capital budgets for inclusion within the budget, in liaison with Heads of Service & Business Partners, and in line with the MTFP, Capital Strategy & transformation, efficiency programmes.
Job Requirements: - Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
- A minimum of two years’ relevant experience as a Finance Manager or equivalent
- CCAB (or equivalent) qualification with post qualification experience and evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience of planning, motivating & controlling the work of a diverse team of Finance staff dealing with complex accounting issues, to manage & motivate a team, including holding all team members to account.
