JOB SUMMARY
We’re seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Social Worker / Senior Practitioner to join Oxfordshire County Council’s Children, Education & Families Directorate—a service rated Good by Ofsted and committed to going further. You will be supporting children and their families to thrive using a restorative, strengths-based, and relational practice approach—working closely with families and professionals to achieve positive, sustainable outcomes.



JOB DESCRIPTION
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:  

• Holding a manageable caseload and ensuring the voice of the child is central to all planning and decision-making.
• Undertaking Child and Family Assessments, Section 47 Investigations, and delivering intervention plans for Child Protection (CP) and Children in Need (CIN).
• Preparing high-quality reports for Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Reviews, Court, and Public Law Outline (PLO) proceedings.
• Delivering services that meet statutory obligations under the Children Acts 1989 & 2004, Working Together 2018, and local safeguarding procedures.
• Working through FSP Workbook modules, maintaining high-quality case recording in line with performance expectations.
• Contributing to and chairing multi-agency meetings, and ensuring collaborative partnership working.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:

• • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/Masters/Postgraduate Diploma)
  • Social Work England registration
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in Children’s Social Care
  • Strong experience with Child Protection Planning, CIN, PLO, and Court work
  • Knowledge of the Assessment Framework, Motivational Interviewing, and Cycle of Change models
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage risk, and apply legislative frameworks with confidence
  • Ability to travel within the county at short notice
