Web Application Developer #1047015
Job Description:
SharePoint Technical Lead
Role Overview:
Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is seeking a Senior SharePoint Developer to serve as the Technical Lead for the next phase of The Hub, our district-wide intranet. This role is designed to bridge a specific technical expertise gap within an established team. The successful candidate will architect the interaction between major hub sites (Student and Staff) and implement data-driven, personalized user experiences.
Reporting Structure:
- This position provides high-level technical expertise and recommendations but functions under the direction of the Senior Director of Knowledge Management, who maintains final approval on all architectural and design decisions.
Expanded Job Functions: - Cross-Hub Architectural Management: Design and optimize the interaction between the Student Hub and Staff Hub to ensure seamless navigation, unified search, and distinct digital environments for different user types.
- Metadata-Driven Personalization: Leverage back-end metadata and the SharePoint User Profile Service to drive "Audience Targeting." This includes exposing specific news and resources based on staff/student roles, school sites, or grade levels.
- Complex Process Automation: (Priority 1) Redesign and implement enterprise-level Power Automate approval flows to standardize district-wide administrative and content- publishing workflows.
- UX Analysis & Heatmapping: Implement and manage Microsoft Clarity to monitor user behavior via heatmaps and session recordings. Use this data to recommend and implement iterative UI/UX improvements.
- Standardization & Site Templating: Develop reusable site templates and "blueprints" for school and department sites to ensure a consistent district-wide look and feel. This includes automating the application of these templates during site provisioning.
- Custom Widget Development: Build and maintain custom SharePoint widgets and app embeds—such as the Annual District Calendar—using modern web frameworks (SPFx).
- Governance & Security Architecture: Manage the district's permission architecture and access security. Automate site access using Azure AD/Dynamic 365 Groups and scripts for standardized settings.
Experience & Skill Requirements: - Professional Experience: 6-8 years in software development or IT architecture, with a minimum of 4 years specialized in SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
- Intranet Leadership: Proven track record of providing technical direction for at least one large-scale (1,000+ users) SharePoint intranet deployment.
- Automation Mastery: Expert proficiency in Power Automate and Power Apps, specifically for multi-stage approval processes.
- Administrative Expertise: Experience acting as a SharePoint and Group Administrator, with a deep understanding of Azure AD integration and metadata service management.
- Data Services: Familiarity with the Microsoft Graph API and integrating disparate data sources to drive SharePoint content.
