Working Hour: Work on shift duty including Saturday, Sunday, Public Holiday

Qualification Requirements:

1. have completed Secondary 5, or equivalent;
2. have ability to read and write Chinese and simple English, and to speak fluent Cantonese, simple English and Putonghua;
3. have knowledge of computer application, with a minimum typing speed of 20 wpm in English and 10 wpm in Chinese;
4. possess a customer-focused orientation and good communication skills; and
5. be physically fit for handling simple labour work such as relocating, packing
6. and delivering library materials as well as related furniture such as book trolleys.

 
Special Requirements
Special job-related requirements, including but not limited to good knowledge of computer application (such as MS Word, MS Excel), and typing speed, may be specified by the Government Representative as necessary.  In such circumstances, such special requirements would be made known to the Contractor for the purpose of selection of the LA under clause 10 of the Conditions of Contract.
 
Main Job Responsibility:

1. LA are required to work at different service points in the library for providing supporting service mainly in the following areas –
2. to perform charging and discharging of library materials;
3. to process patrons' registration and other applications;
4. to assist in handling reservation, inter-library loan service, and handling of unserviceable and long overdue items;
5. to trace, record, and process problem library materials;
6. to perform shelf-reading, search and fetch for library materials;
7. to provide menial service such as sanitising, packing, unpacking and sorting library materials;
8. to perform minor repair of library materials and to arrange for despatch and return of library materials to Technical Processing Unit / other contractor(s) for binding and repair;
9. to perform data entry, clerical, and messengerial duties;
10. to prepare new materials such as stamping, sticking of due date slips, jacketing and insertion of magnetic strips, etc.;
11. to perform reception and telephone enquiry duties;
12. to answer simple reference enquiries;
13. to assist readers in the use of CD-ROMs, Internet and microfilm readers;
14. to prepare current newspapers and periodicals for display;
15. to patrol and maintain order and tidiness on library premises, and to assist in the venue admission, such as crowd control and body temperature checks, when and where necessary;
16. to assist in general work in carrying out extension activities including the preparation of venue and audio-visual aids, publicity and posting of notices and posters; distribution of leaflets, and to assist in crowd control during the activities;
17. to assist in delivering, setting up and dismantling of equipment and furniture;
18. to assist in carrying out house management duties such as patrolling, checking, recording and monitoring the usage and conditions of library facilities and take statistics;
19. to serve on mobile libraries in providing library services (LA concerned are required to travel on the mobile library vehicle); and
20. to perform any other duties as assigned.
