Are you eager to land a brand new role for the? Our client are looking for a Building Maintenance Engineer to join their team.

Role Purpose: The Building Maintenance Engineer will provide essential support for building services at the main London Borough office, ensuring the facility’s infrastructure and life safety systems are maintained safely and reliably. Under the general direction of the Building Services Engineer, the role will focus on planned and preventative maintenance. You must be adaptable, with strong problem-solving skills, as the role will involve a range of tasks and working conditions. This is a full-time position (36 hours per week), with occasional evening or weekend work to cover absences or special events.

Key Responsibilities: Corporate Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate effectively with the Council’s facilities management team to achieve corporate objectives.
2. Contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams, overcoming departmental silos to deliver transformational projects.
3. Participate in emergency planning and respond to emergency situations as required.
4. Assist with election processes when necessary.

Functional Responsibilities:

1. Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs across building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety equipment, and building fabric. Maintain accurate logs for review by Facilities Management (FM) and Health & Safety (H&S) staff, escalating issues as needed.
2. Provide responsive support to Facilities Officers and FM staff, ensuring LBH staff receive high-quality service and minimizing service interruptions.
3. Diagnose issues within building systems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
4. Address urgent maintenance requests and resolve issues during critical situations.
5. Maintain accurate records for all maintenance activities, including equipment manuals and inventory.
6. Support the Building Services Engineering team in ensuring the health & safety and statutory compliance of contractors and staff working within FM at LBH facilities.
7. Conduct monitoring and testing of environmental factors (e.g., water quality, air quality, temperature, noise) in key LBH buildings and maintain detailed records.
8. Assist with insurance risk assessments and engineering inspections at LBH sites, providing technical guidance for remedial actions.
9. Provide out-of-hours reactive maintenance support for LBH buildings, working closely with FM staff to resolve any issues.
10. Supervise and manage a range of approved contractors, ensuring compliance with health & safety procedures, permits to work, and service specifications.

Essential Experience needed:

1. Hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, painting, and building fabric.
2. Practical experience in a large building maintenance environment with the ability to identify and address equipment failures and weaknesses.
3. Experience in inspecting and operating fire safety systems, ensuring compliance with operational standards.
4. Familiarity with systems such as HVAC, CAFM, Dali, BMS, and fire safety systems.
5. Experience working in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and managing conflicting demands.
6. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a busy office environment.
7. Strong organizational and workload management skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide cover for team colleague
8. Proven experience in maintaining and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building fabric systems.
9. City & Guilds or NVQ in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
10. Knowledge of current health and safety and fire safety regulations/legislation.
