Our client is a well-established, Florida-based mechanical contractors with full service engineering, construction, prefabrication, manufacturing, and building management solutions that has been in business for over 50 years. They are seeking an experienced Director of Field Operations based in Miami, Florida.
Position Overview
The Director of Field Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing field operations across all projects and divisions, ensuring that quality, safety, efficiency, and workforce development are consistently achieved. This role requires a strong leader who can partner with executive leadership, project management, manufacturing, finance, and clients to deliver successful outcomes while building and motivating a high-performing field team.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in construction, manufacturing, or operations leadership, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Experience must be as a Mechanical contractor or General Contractor who fully understand MEP
- Proven track record of managing large-scale field operations and cross-functional teams.
Skills & Competencies - Comfortable overseeing all projects ( at least 10 + projects simultaneously) ranging in size from $5M- $60M
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with a focus on workforce development.
- Deep knowledge of construction operations, safety programs, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with project management, finance, manufacturing, and executive leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with clients and stakeholders.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and margin performance.
- Ability to travel regionally and maintain a strong onsite presence.
Preferred Credentials - OSHA certification and strong understanding of safety compliance.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with lean construction, operational excellence, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Key Responsibilities Field & Operations Leadership - Implement and manage quality control/quality assurance programs in the field.
- Evaluate field productivity, providing guidance and support to Project Management to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery for all stakeholders.
- Oversee field labor operations, ensuring alignment across divisions and projects.
- Collaborate with the manufacturing facility to streamline and expand operational efficiency.
- Manage and oversee the development of the special projects division, including daily project management responsibilities.
Workforce Development & Leadership - Select, train, and mentor employees at all levels, fostering a capable and engaged workforce.
- Develop and execute strategies to drive field motivation, strengthen performance, and reduce turnover.
- Ensure compliance with training, certifications, and succession planning initiatives.
Safety & Risk Management - Implement and manage company-wide safety and risk management programs.
- Monitor and improve safety performance, ensuring compliance with OSHA and industry standards.
- Proactively mitigate risks and support reduction of insurance/payout costs.
Strategic & Financial Contribution - Partner with executive leadership to support strategic decision-making and provide timely reporting, insights, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to monitor project budgets, cash flow, and margin performance.
- Ensure projects adhere to schedules and budgets, driving reliable forecasting and accurate financial performance.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement - Build strong relationships with clients, owners, and construction managers to deliver projects that exceed expectations.
- Collaborate with preconstruction teams to ensure accurate estimating, particularly for special projects.
- Support business development efforts to expand market presence and revenue growth.
Field Presence - Travel across regions to maintain onsite visibility, ensuring direct engagement with field teams.
- Drive regional engagement, motivating staff through accessibility and strong leadership.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Project Delivery: % of projects completed on time and within budget.
- Labor Productivity: Variance between estimated and actual labor hours.
- Operational Efficiency: Reduction in rework, delays, and change orders.
- Manufacturing Synergy: Improvement in throughput, cost savings, or lead times.
- Safety Record: OSHA recordable incident rate, LTIFR.
- Employee Engagement: Retention, satisfaction, and promotion rates.
- Financial & Scheduling: Budget adherence, milestone reliability, margin performance.
- Client Satisfaction: Repeat business and survey scores.
- Market Expansion: New wins and special projects revenue growth.
Compensation: Salary ranges from $150k-$180K, PTO Program, 8 Paid Holidays, Cell phone stipend, Car Allowance, Fuel Card, sun pass Allowance
