Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in West London, are looking for an experienced Private Housing Standards Officer to join their team and play a crucial role in their housing operations.       

Position: Private Housing Standards Officer
Rate: £40 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract: Temporary (Nov 2026) Possible Extension + Hybrid 

Purpose:

• To contribute to improving the quality of the private sector housing stock and ensure the sector can fulfil its potential in meeting housing need in the Borough.

Job Responsibilities: 

• You will contribute directly towards the improvement of private sector dwelling conditions across the Borough through a variety of informal and formal enforcement action and policy development.
• To investigate complaints of poor private sector housing conditions and provide technical & directed advice to resolve matters. Where possible and appropriate, to work cooperatively with landlords to ensure required standards are met and housing conditions improved where required.
• To investigate reports of poor housing conditions in HMOs and monitor compliance with the council’s adopted housing standards & against national legislation (HHSRS & Housing Management Regulations) and take enforcement action as required.

Job Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
• A formal qualification in Environmental Health, Building Surveying, Construction, or a similar field. Substantial experience in this field may substitute for a formal qualification in certain circumstances, at the discretion of the council. 
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
