Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Southeast London, are looking for an experienced Contract Lawyer to join their team and play a crucial role in their Legal and Democratic Services.  

Position: Contract Lawyer
Rate: £60-65 per hour (Umbrella) 
Contract Duration: Temp (Nov 2026) Possible Extension
Working Arrangement: Hybrid/Mainly Remote

Job Purpose:

• To provide a range of specialist complex legal advice predominantly regarding contracts, redevelopment projects, planning matters, procurement issues, local government law and other areas of practice where necessary. Ensuring the principles of good governance, and that priorities are met in accordance with the regulatory framework.

Job Responsibilities:

• To act as a legal advisor to clients in relation to some or all of the following - contract, procurements, trading, property and planning. Providing legal expertise on highly complex issues for the council, complying with the Council’s statutory and contractual obligations.
• Advising client and negotiating with third parties on all aspects of multiple contracts. Negotiating on projects involving multiple agencies and client interests.
• Responsible for contributing to/ or managing projects, providing expertise on risk and strategy management within the area of specialism.

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of and ability to apply local government constitutional
  and administrative law, as well as some experience of procurement
  legislation, contract, property or commercial law.
• Drafting legal documents including, contracts and planning and
  highways agreements.
• Experience of writing briefings for Members, chief officers and senior
  managers which are clear and concise.
