Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local Council in London, are looking for an experienced Development Manager to join their team.

Position: Development Manager
Rate: £320.00 per day

This position sits within the council’s Regeneration, Development, and Asset Management service, which is committed to delivering new homes and community infrastructure in line with the council’s Building Homes and Communities Strategy.

As Development Manager, you will oversee one or more complex development projects post-contract (RIBA Stages 4-7) with values ranging from £10m to £140m. You will coordinate internal teams, manage external consultants, and ensure projects move smoothly from detailed design through construction and handover. Depending on the complexity, you may work under a Senior Development Manager or independently manage smaller projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage council development projects, focusing on post-contract delivery (RIBA Stages 4-7).
• Develop and implement regeneration options for council sites, including housing and mixed-use developments.
• Collaborate with council departments to integrate corporate objectives into project designs.
• Oversee procurement and post-contract design services, ensuring projects meet high standards of design, sustainability, and construction best practices.
• Ensure successful planning approvals, discharge planning conditions, and deliver mixed-tenure housing and community facilities.
• Supervise consultations with residents, ensuring alignment with project goals and compliance with council protocols.
• Monitor project progress, consultant performance, and report to senior managers and elected officials.
• Coordinate workstreams, including internal teams, external consultants, and agencies, ensuring compliance with development agreements.
• Collaborate with asset management, planning, and legal services to maximize financial and physical benefits.
• Manage project handovers, securing internal sign-offs, inspections, and approvals.

Person Specification-  Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in construction, development, or regeneration, or significant relevant experience (minimum 3 years).
• Desirable: Membership in a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB).

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience managing complex, mixed-use development projects.
• Strong knowledge of project management for construction and development schemes.
• Expertise in handover processes and embedding efficient systems.
• Skilled in negotiation across project stages.
• Familiarity with public sector procurement processes.
