Role Purpose:

We are looking for a School Travel Assistant to play a key administrative role in supporting the operational delivery of the School Travel Service. This role will involve liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective transport of children and young persons (aged 5-25) across the city.


Key Responsibilities:

• Provide administrative support for the daily operations of the School Travel Service, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
• Manage daily enquiries and travel issues such as route amendments, cancellations, client and driver behavior concerns, safeguarding issues, and complaints.
• Process Personal Travel Budgets and bus pass applications accurately and efficiently.
• Support the recruitment, training, and health & safety processes for School Passenger Assistants.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date travel records in the school travel database.
• Liaise with internal/external stakeholders including schools, transport operators, Children’s Services, and parents/carers.
• Assist with risk assessments, audits, and project work related to school travel.
• Attend forums and events alongside senior staff to promote the service.
• Raise purchase orders and ensure service activities remain within budget.

• Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (Grade C/Level 6 and above).
• Proven experience in an administrative role, ideally within a customer service or transport-related setting.
• This role requires on-site working, with minimal remote work permitted.
• Job share options are available, with a Monday-Wednesday / Wednesday-Friday split.
