Role Purpose:
A Finance Officer at Enfield Council is responsible for providing comprehensive financial support to various departments, ensuring effective financial management and compliance with regulations. 

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management:

• • Lead on finance activities, including corporate accounting, VAT, and finance systems maintenance.
  • Ensure accuracy in financial controls, including balance sheet reconciliations and government/statutory returns.
  • Handle HMRC and VAT queries, including completion of monthly VAT claims and CIS returns.
  • Support the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts and liaise with internal/external auditors
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes and automation.
  • Implement efficiencies in ICT and financial systems to streamline operations.
  • Coach, mentor, and support colleagues, including induction and training of new staff.
  • Act as a point of contact for finance-related enquiries, resolving issues efficiently.
  • Work closely with finance teams and service contacts to develop and maintain effective relationships.
  • Collaborate with ICT and technical teams to enhance financial reporting and automation.
  • Ensure adherence to council policies, financial regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, best practices, and emerging financial regulations.

• • Proven experience in financial accounting within a local authority, public sector, or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of year-end closing processes and dealing with audit queries.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work to tight deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel and finance systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience supporting change and efficiency initiatives.
  • Highly numerate and literate, with a proactive approach to skill development
  • CCAB or CIMA part or fully qualified accountant
  • Experience with financial systems implementation and maintenance.
