The Position
An opportunity exists for a Coal Quality Tester to work as a casual at our Laboratory Site in Newcastle and work locally. If you have a drive to produce quality results and a strong team spirit, we would like to hear from you. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be involved in aspects of Quality, Turnaround Time, Client Service and Productivity.
The Coal Quality Tester position is an entry-level, position with the prospect of a long-term role for the right person.
The day to day
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions
- Ensuring that all work complies with national and international standards
- Checking and validating all results to ensure that they are within repeatability tolerances
- Transfer validated results into the reporting system
- Maintain the laboratory and its equipment according to company standards, including calibrations
- A range of analysis including Proximate analysis, Calorific Value, Total Sulfur, Crucible Swelling Number, CHN, Gray King Coke Type, Gieseler, Dilatometer, RD, XRF, IC, ICPMS and others
The Essentials Full training will be provided, however, to be considered for this position, you will have:
- A strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork
- Good grasp of computers/technology
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling duties
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems
- A valid drivers’ licence is required
- Previous coal analysis experience or instrumentation experience (eg XRF, ICPMS) would be seen as an advantage
- Willingness to work rotating day, afternoon or night shifts will be a requirement
- Ongoing drug and alcohol testing will be a requirement
