The role
ALS Geochemistry is looking for a Senior Fire Assayer to join our Fire Assay team at our facility in Malaga. You will play a crucial role in the analysis of precious metals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately weigh samples and add flux reagents as part of the fire assay process.
- Operate high-temperature furnaces (900 - 1100°C) to fuse mixtures and extract metals such as gold.
- Perform cupellation and prilling to collect and prepare metal samples for analysis.
- Inspect samples, fusion pots, lead buttons, and prills to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Record and report any anomalies to maintain the integrity of the assay process.
- Follow strict safety procedures and proactively identify potential hazards in the workplace.
- Assisting and supporting Shift Team Leaders to supervise and coordinate shift team members. This includes training staff and assessing quality outputs of shift team members.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team that bring their Senior Fire Assay experience to work in an ALS environment. We are looking for individuals that have proven senior Fire Assay experience, and leadership attributes or experience.

This is a full-time position that operates on a weekly rotating roster of mornings, afternoons and nights. You must be available to work from Monday to Friday for 8-hour shifts. The salary range is
$75,000 - $80,000, which includes shift allowances of
15% for the afternoon shift and 20% for the night shift. Additionally, there may be opportunities to earn extra income with optional overtime and weekend penalty rates.
We consider sponsorship opportunities for current visa holders working in Australia on a case-by-case basis. The essentials - Significant experience in all facets of fire assay operations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a high-paced environment.
- Experience working with high temperatures and handling chemicals safely
- Clear communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to perform procedures promptly and accurately
- A team player with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
