We are seeking a Metals and Wet Chemistry Supervisor to lead our dynamic team and ensure the efficient operation of our laboratory. In this role, you will manage daily lab activities, oversee instrument maintenance, and ensure GLP compliance within the Metals and Wet Chemistry teams. You will be responsible for prioritizing workflows, authorizing test results, and driving continuous process improvements. The ideal candidate will have a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Science (preferably Chemistry), at least 3 years of laboratory experience, and a proven track record of technical leadership. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
The day to day
- Training - Participate in relevant training sessions and complete relevant training activities required.
- Implementation of Efficiency Improvements
- Co-ordinating data processing
- Authorisation and release of test results (where required)
- Ensuring GLP compliance within the Metals & Wet Chemistry teams.
- Responsible for the maintenance and coordinate the operation of Metals and Wet Chemistry instrumentation needed for analysis.
- Assign work to Team Members within a work area.
- Autonomy to independently undertake tests and interpret results based on approved methods and harness the resources to conduct the test.
- Ensure that QC is performed as required by the ALS F&P Quality Systems.
- Monitor completion times.
- Prioritise workflow across the Metals and Wet Chemistry section.
- Ensure all calibrations are completed within required timeframes.
- Ensure all test methodologies and associated procedures are clear, concise and logical.
- Involved in identifying process improvement within the laboratory.
- Provide technical support to the production team during Out of Specifications and Out of Trends results.
- Oversee change control processes related to Metals & Wet Chemistry systems, equipment, methods, ensuring all changes are documented and approved appropriately prior to being undertaken.
- Ensures non-conforming work, corrective and preventive actions, Out of specification are managed according to required time frame
- Ensure all responsibilities are performed to highest standards to deliver client satisfaction.
- Inform the Technical Manager and Client Service Manager where changes to client methods are required or testing procedural problems are identified that are causing client service issues.
- Undertake and conduct training as required.
- Ensure training records are documented and kept.
- Demonstrate technical and operational leadership.
- If requested act as Buddy for new team member.
- Ensure relevant personnel are notified when equipment and consumables are required.
The essentials - A Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Science (preferably Chemistry).
