Role Overview
The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) is a critical member of an Air Medical Crew (AMC), delivering advanced prehospital and critical care during aeromedical transport missions. This role is transport-focused and operational in nature, providing high-acuity care to patients of all ages during community-to-facility and interfacility transfers.
Working alongside other AMC clinicians (Registered Nurses or Respiratory Therapists) and supported by 24/7 Online Medical Control (OLMC) physicians, the ACP practices with a high degree of clinical autonomy within established medical directives and transport medicine best practices.
This position is best suited to ACPs who thrive in dynamic, autonomous, high-acuity environments and are comfortable operating in remote, resource-limited, and weather-challenged regions.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Transport
- Provide advanced assessment, stabilization, treatment, and continuous monitoring of critically ill or injured patients during aeromedical transport
- Deliver care across the lifespan, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations
- Perform rapid clinical decision-making in high-pressure, time-sensitive scenarios
- Operate within scope of practice while consulting with OLMC physicians as required
Team & Operational Duties - Function as part of a multidisciplinary Air Medical Crew (ACP + RN or RRT)
- Adapt to varying team configurations based on patient acuity and mission requirements
- Operate across fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft equipped to ICU-level standards
- Support safe loading, unloading, and in-flight patient management
Clinical Leadership & Handover - Provide clinical leadership during patient handovers at sending and receiving facilities
- Act as a liaison between referring healthcare providers and receiving care teams
- Support and guide rural and remote healthcare staff during transport-related interactions
Quality, Safety & Readiness - Maintain clinical equipment, aircraft medical interiors, and transport readiness
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, including chart audits and case reviews
- Adhere to all safety, operational, and clinical governance standards
Work Environment - Aircraft-based clinical care is the primary work setting
- Deployment is system-driven and based on patient acuity, weather, and operational demand
- Base assignment does not limit geographic service area
- Extended transport times, variable call volumes, and 24/7 readiness are expected during rotations
Schedule - Full-time rotational model: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
- During on-rotation: continuous operational availability
Qualifications & Requirements Required - Minimum 2 years of experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
- Active ACP registration in good standing in home province/territory
- Ability to obtain and maintain registration with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba (CPMB)
- Current certifications:
Assets (Preferred) - Experience in aeromedical or medical transport environments
- PALS
- NRP
- Trauma certification (PHTLS or ITLS)
- Indigenous cultural awareness training
Compensation & Benefits (Approximate Annual Value) Compensation - Base Salary: $98,000 – $123,500 (experience dependent)
- Additional annual earnings:
- Per diem and paid travel days: ~$20,000 – $30,000
- Vacation and statutory holiday pay: ~$9,000 – $12,000
