Our client, a growing construction and project management organization in Oakville, is seeking a Project Accountant / General Accountant to join their finance team.

What You’ll Be Doing Project Accounting Responsibilities - Set up new projects including budgets, cost codes, and billing structures
- Monitor project costs, commitments, and financial performance
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and forecasts
- Perform cost-to-complete analysis and variance reporting
- Review project-related invoices, purchase orders, and expenses
- Support progress billing, milestone billing, and cost-plus invoicing
- Work closely with project managers to update budgets and manage financial risks
- Reconcile project accounts and support project closeout financials
General Accounting Responsibilities - Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow tracking
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analysis
- Manage and review work-in-progress (WIP) adjustments
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Support external audit preparation and documentation
- Contribute to financial reporting improvements and system optimization
What We’re Looking For Experience - 5+ years of accounting experience
- Experience within construction, project-based, or job-cost accounting environments preferred
- Strong background in financial reporting and month-end close processes
Technical Skills - Solid understanding of project accounting and job costing principles
- Experience with ERP accounting systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Education - Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA designation or CPA program enrollment is considered an asset
Soft Skills - Strong attention to detail and analytical ability
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with project teams and finance leadership
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and reporting deadlines
