The Opportunity
Our client, a growing construction and project management organization in Oakville, is looking for a Project Accountant / General Accountant to join their finance team.
This is not a traditional back-office accounting role.
You’ll work directly with project managers and leadership teams, helping drive financial clarity across active construction projects while also supporting the company’s broader accounting operations.
If you enjoy seeing how financial decisions impact real projects — budgets, timelines, and outcomes — this role offers a unique blend of operational exposure and technical accounting responsibility.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Many accounting roles keep you removed from the business.
This one puts you close to the action.
You will work directly with project teams, gaining insight into how construction projects are planned, financed, and executed.
Other advantages include:
- Strong exposure to project financial performance and decision-making
- Direct collaboration with finance leadership and project managers
- A role that blends strategic project oversight with core accounting fundamentals
- Opportunity to influence financial reporting systems and process improvements
- Stable and growing organization with long-term project pipelines
What You’ll Be Doing - Set up new projects including budgets, cost codes, and billing structures
- Monitor project costs, commitments, and progress against budgets
- Prepare project forecasts and cost-to-complete analysis
- Support progress billing, milestone billing, and cost-plus invoicing
- Partner with project managers to identify financial risks and manage budgets
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close reporting
- Support WIP accounting and project financial reporting
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Help prepare documentation for external audits and financial reporting
What We’re Looking For
Experience - 5+ years of accounting experience
- Experience in construction, project-based, or job-cost environments strongly preferred
- Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting
Technical Skills - Strong understanding of project accounting and job costing
- ERP system experience
- Advanced Excel proficiency
Education - Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA designation or CPA program enrollment is an asset
Soft Skills - Highly detail-oriented and analytical
- Comfortable collaborating with finance, operations, and project teams
- Strong communication skills
- Organized and able to manage multiple financial deadlines
Compensation & Work Mode
