Hours: 37 Hours Per week
Days: 5 Days a week
Rate: £577.16 per day

Purpose of the Role: 

We are seeking a proactive and results-driven leader to head our newly established Centralised Debt Recovery & Income Team. This is a pivotal role aimed at maximising income, reducing outstanding debt, and streamlining recovery processes across the Council. You'll work collaboratively with service areas to enhance efficiency, promote financial sustainability, and ensure fair and effective debt collection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Accounts Receivable collection and recovery team, ensuring delivery of a high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused service.
• Oversee the Council’s income collection and debt recovery processes, from point-of-order payment through to enforcement and write-off.
• Design and implement standardised, automated recovery processes, ensuring timely progression of cases through the appropriate recovery cycles.
• Develop and maintain procedures for the use of enforcement agents, court action (including attachment of earnings, bankruptcy, and charging orders), and debt write-offs.
• Monitor and review the performance of internal teams and external debt collection agencies, drafting tender documentation when necessary.
• Raise the profile of Accounts Receivable within the Council by engaging with Directorate management teams to maximise collection outcomes.

• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing high-performing teams in a financial or debt recovery setting.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Deep understanding of statutory and legal frameworks governing debt recovery.
• Experience implementing automated recovery systems and process improvements.
• Ability to analyse performance data and drive continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to balance operational delivery with strategic planning.
