About the Role:

To provide sickness cover for a member of the tree maintenance team undergoing planned surgery. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining young trees across the city in accordance with Bristol City Council protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out routine maintenance of young trees, including watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, and replacing stakes, straps, and protective cages.
• Operate a large flatbed truck fitted with a water bowser to complete daily watering tasks.
• Follow job sheets and lone working procedures provided by the supervisor.
• Work in parks and street settings across Bristol, starting daily at the plant nursery.
• Perform physically demanding tasks including kneeling, lifting, and walking for extended periods.
• Support environmental targets through composting, recycling, and efficient use of resources.
• Maintain cleanliness and serviceability of all tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Ensure all tasks are completed to contract standards regarding time, cost, productivity, and quality.
• Adhere to all relevant health and safety practices, including COSHH regulations.
• Respond to public and customer enquiries in a friendly and professional manner.

• Physically fit and capable of carrying out sustained manual work.
• Valid UK driving licence with experience driving large vehicles.
• Previous experience in horticulture, tree maintenance, or similar outdoor work.
• Familiarity with health & safety regulations, including COSHH.
• Ability to work independently and follow written instructions/job sheets.
• Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Basic literacy and numeracy to understand safety instructions and work documentation.
