Position: Asbestos Surveyor
Rate: £31.44 per hour

Contract Duration: 6 months

Job Profile:

We are seeking an experienced Asbestos Supervisor to oversee the delivery of asbestos surveys, ensuring remedial actions are completed in line with asbestos management plans. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, monitor compliance, and liaise with contractors and stakeholders to maintain safety standards across housing and community properties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the asbestos survey programme and ensure compliance with management plans.
• Provide weekly progress updates on asbestos inspections and remedial works.
• Inform relevant staff and clients about asbestos findings and coordinate necessary actions (removal, encapsulation, re-inspections).
• Ensure approximately 180 trade staff and over 1,000 employees within Housing & Safer Communities are informed and protected regarding asbestos risks.
• Liaise with residents on asbestos-related works.
• Scope and review asbestos surveys and removal/remediation projects.
• Approve pre-work documents, risk assessments, and method statements from contractors.
• Monitor contractor performance, approve quotations, and ensure proper documentation (waste notes, certificates of cleanliness, job completion reports).
• Maintain an accurate asbestos asset database and develop risk reduction strategies.
• Act as a subject matter expert on asbestos compliance across the directorate.
• Keep up to date with asbestos legislation and best practices, driving continuous improvements.
• Supervise asbestos contractors, manage KPIs, and ensure operational safety.
• Handle public and stakeholder inquiries related to asbestos.

• P405 – Management of Asbestos in Buildings (or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of asbestos legislation, including CAR2012 and HSG264.
• Experience delivering asbestos management in housing repairs and investment environments.
• Proven ability to manage contractors and external partners effectively.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in IT systems for tracking and reporting compliance.
