About the role:
We are seeking a Community Support Worker (Housing Officer) who are resilient, compassionate, and highly skilled, with a strong commitment to housing stability and positive client outcomes to join our Emergency Housing team based in Bundaberg on a full-time basis.
This role operates within the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) framework, delivering support across Emergency & Crisis Accommodation (short-term, high-intensity support) and Housing & Tenancy Sustainment
(HomeStay Program – early intervention and prevention).
The position requires the ability to respond effectively to immediate housing crises, support clients with complex needs, and work within strict program guidelines, funding requirements, and audit expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate crisis response, including rapid intake, triage, risk assessment, and short‑term safety planning.
- Coordinate emergency accommodation and essential resources for individuals and families in crisis.
- Deliver structured housing case management, including comprehensive assessments and goal‑focused case plans.
- Support long‑term housing stability through advocacy, referrals, and ongoing tenancy‑sustainment work.
- Implement early‑intervention strategies to prevent tenancy breakdown in both private and social housing.
- Educate clients on tenancy skills, including rights, budgeting, financial management, and property care.
- Provide onsite and outreach support within crisis accommodation settings, ensuring safety and adherence to rules.
- Ensure property safety and compliance, including inspections, reporting issues, and meeting WHS and fire standards.
- Accurately record client data in SHIP/QHIP systems, ensuring compliance with AIHW and SHS reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with partner services using a “No Wrong Door” approach, participating in coordinated referrals and service pathways.
What We’re Looking For: - Previous experience working with people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
- Proven experience in case management, ideally with vulnerable, complex or high-needs populations.
- Strong crisis management and conflict resolution skills.
- Understanding of and experience working in trauma-informed care and client-centred practice.
- Familiarity with property management within a social services context is an advantage.
- Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, or Community Services preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current driver’s license, blue card, criminal history check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and evidence of rights to work in Australia.
