Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in West Berkshire are looking for an experienced Procurement Officer to join their team.

Position: Procurement Officer 
Rate: £22.00 per hour
Contract Duration: Temporary (3 Months) with Possible Extension

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead procurement projects to achieve cost savings and efficiencies across key categories.
• Support the Category Manager in evaluating and deciding on procurement strategies, including framework agreements and outsourcing.
• Manage and support the procurement process from document preparation to contract award, ensuring compliance and due diligence.
• Maintain and develop the In-tend procurement portal, providing support to users and generating insightful reports.
• Prepare board reports and present key procurement updates at Procurement Board meetings.
• Ensure accuracy and maintenance of the corporate contracts register, risk register, and contracts library.
• Conduct market engagement activities to drive competitive and efficient procurement practices.
• Develop category management strategies that influence spending and challenge existing procurement practices.
• Deliver value-for-money procurement solutions across the contract lifecycle.
• Support high-level, complex negotiations and act as a trusted procurement expert within the Council.
• Keep abreast of national and local procurement policies and regulations.

Job Requirements:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum two years’ experience in procurement or commissioning within a public sector organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Public Contracts Regulations (2015) and procurement best practices.
• Experience in managing procurement processes, including tendering, contract management, and compliance.
• Ability to produce clear and structured procurement documentation aligned with corporate and stakeholder needs.
• Proven ability to negotiate and manage business-critical contracts.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
• Membership (or working towards membership) of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).
• Project Management Qualification (e.g., PRINCE2).
• Familiarity with Council procurement systems such as Agresso and In-tend.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to manipulate and interpret financial data.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Proactive and adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of IT literacy, including proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and web-based procurement platforms.
