We are seeking a skilled Microbiologist to join the team in our environmental laboratory based in Townsville. The role involves analysis of environmental samples, method verification, equipment maintenance, staff training, and troubleshooting while maintaining documentation and reporting results in line with laboratory procedures. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a commercial laboratory, expertise in water testing (HPC, filtrations, Legionella analysis), and strong organizational skills. A degree in Microbiology, knowledge of quality accreditation, and the ability to work both autonomously and in a team are essential. This role requires flexibility to work day and afternoon shifts.
The day to day
- Analysing environmental and potable water samples following established work procedures and techniques
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual
- Supervision and training of laboratory staff
- Prioritising daily workloads
- Operation, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Troubleshooting and method verification planning for new and existing methods
- Reporting of results in accordance with Quality Work Instructions
- Ensuring compliance with the laboratory’s QC and HSE requirements
- Maintaining relevant documentation
- Completion of client queries, investigations, responses and any resulting outcomes
- Act as a NATA signatory
The Essentials: - At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial laboratory
- Previous experience in water testing including HPC, filtrations and Legionella analysis
- Successfully completed a Bachelor or Honours degree (Microbiology major preferred)
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel)
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- A working knowledge of lab safety requirements
- Demonstrated experience in a quality accredited environment
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment
- Able to work on day and afternoon shift
