The Role
ALS is seeking a Project Mineralogist for our busy metallurgy business based in Perth, Western Australia. This is a permanent full-time position within the Mineralogy team conducting mineralogical investigations in support of the facilities’ metallurgical testing capabilities. This position will suit a geoscientist who is dynamic, self-motivated, and seeking a secure long-term Perth based role.
The day to day
Applicants will be based in the Balcatta laboratory. Experience of XRD analysis using Rietveld method is required. Experience in process mineralogy services would be desirable. An understanding of the capability and output of various mineralogical analysis tools, such as QEMSCAN/TIMA (and similar, e.g. AMICS, MLA etc.), would be highly regarded.
Duties include:
- Supervision of assigned mineralogical projects.
- Ensure production of quality final ALS Metallurgy mineralogical reports.
- Provide a consulting role for ALS Metallurgy clients in the field of Mineralogy, as required.
- Direct interaction with clients towards completion of programs of work and clarification of technical issues arising from the work undertaken.
- Provide quotes and tender for projects from clients.
- Provide mentoring and training to other team members, both professional and technical.
- To have a working knowledge of appropriate OH&S policies and procedures relevant to the business.
The essentialsApplicants with previous experience in similar laboratory will be highly regarded. Suitable candidates for this role must have:
- A tertiary qualification in Science, preferably in Geology, Mineralogy or Have over 5 years’ experience in Rietveld XRD analysis (Panalytical High Score software preferred)
- You are familiar with process mineralogy, petrography and lithology
- Understanding of capability and output from various mineralogical analysis tools, including automated SEM (i.e. QEMSCAN/TIMA or similar) and optical microscope.
- Highly developed computer skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Well-developed communication skills
- Able to work in a team environment
- Be a self-starter with initiative
