Commercial HVAC Service Technician (313A / G2) | Mississauga, GTA West
The Opportunity
Tired of chasing install season and watching your hours dry up in the shoulder months? This role is built around something most HVAC jobs can’t promise: consistency. More than 70 percent of the work is recurring preventive maintenance for property managers, schools, retail plazas and light industrial facilities, which means a full schedule in January as well as July.
You’ll run your own day from a fully stocked company van, working on rooftop units, make-up air, boilers and building controls across the GTA West. You’ll be the trusted technician clients ask for by name, with the support of an established, family-owned contractor that has been growing steadily in the GTA for over twenty years.
Two technicians are being added to keep up with a growing maintenance contract base. That growth is the opportunity: more equipment, more variety, and a real route to Lead Technician for people who want it.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Stability is built into the business model. Recurring maintenance contracts drive the schedule, not one-off projects.
You work independently with real autonomy, backed by a Service Manager you report to directly and a team of about 85 people with a 40-vehicle fleet.
Your growth is paid for. G1 licence upgrades and building automation controls training are covered, with a clear path to Lead Technician.
You’ll be set up properly from day one, with all specialty tools and meters provided, a $1,000 annual tool allowance, a fuel card and a phone.
You’ll get time to recharge, with three weeks’ vacation to start plus three personal days.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Keeping commercial buildings comfortable and running by performing preventive maintenance and service on RTUs from 3 to 50 tons, make-up air units, split systems, boilers and unit heaters.
- Solving the hard problems, diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical and refrigeration faults on compressors, motors, controls and economizers.
- Fine-tuning building performance by troubleshooting and adjusting Honeywell, Johnson Controls and Distech building automation and thermostat controls.
- Protecting the environment and the client by handling, recovering and charging refrigerants in line with Ontario Regulation 463/10 and ODS requirements.
- Turning findings into action with clear digital work orders, service reports and quotes for additional work on a company tablet.
- Building client trust by explaining what you found and what you recommend to property managers and site contacts.
- Sharing the after-hours on-call rotation, roughly one week in six.
- Developing the next generation by mentoring apprentices and keeping your van clean, organized and safe.
- Working safely every day, including working at heights, lockout and tagout, and confined space protocols.
What We’re Looking For - An Ontario 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic certificate of qualification, or a 313D with strong commercial experience.
- A TSSA Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence. A G1 is an asset.
- An Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card.
- At least 3 years of hands-on commercial HVAC service experience after becoming licensed.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including reading wiring diagrams and ladder schematics.
- A valid Ontario G driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
- Working at Heights certification, or willingness to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- The ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and work on rooftops in all weather.
- A clear communicator who takes ownership of the call from diagnosis to close-out.
- Bonus points for experience with chillers, VRF systems or BAS programming, familiarity with ServiceTitan or similar field service software, and a background in maintenance-contract-driven service.
Compensation & Work Model - $38.00 to $46.00 per hour, based on licences and experience.
- Time-and-a-half after 44 hours, plus a $250 weekly on-call stipend and call-out pay.
- Company service van, fuel card and cell phone, with a take-home vehicle during your on-call week.
- $1,000 annual tool allowance, with all specialty tools and meters provided.
- Health, dental and vision from day one, plus an Employee and Family Assistance Program.
- Group RRSP with a 4 percent employer match after three months.
- Three weeks’ vacation plus three personal days.
- Work model: Onsite, at customer sites. Full-Time, Permanent. Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, plus on-call rotation.
Location & Travel Based in Mississauga, serving customer sites across the GTA West service area. Daily travel between client sites in a company vehicle. Overtime is common in peak seasons, June to August and November to January.
