Environmental Technician | Wastewater Treatment & Degreaser Systems Operator
This role may also be known as:
Wastewater Treatment Operator
Industrial Wastewater Technician
EHS Technician
Process Chemistry Technician
The Opportunity
Every part that leaves this plant is clean, and every gallon of water that leaves it is compliant. You’re the reason why.
This is a hands-on technical role at a premier industrial manufacturing facility in the Eclectic, Alabama area. You’ll run the automated degreasing systems that keep metal parts at production quality, and you’ll operate the on-site industrial wastewater treatment system that keeps the facility within local, state and federal environmental permits. You’ll do titrations, jar testing, sampling and equipment care, and the people around you will rely on your results.
If you’ve worked in industrial manufacturing and want a role where you use your head as much as your hands, this is it. You’ll pick up real-world chemistry, compliance and equipment experience that opens doors across manufacturing, environmental services and wastewater operations.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most plant roles put you on one machine. This one gives you ownership of two connected systems and the chemistry that runs them. You’ll sit within the Environmental, Health and Safety team with direct access to the Environmental Manager, so what you notice and recommend is heard. You’ll have the autonomy to read your own test results and adjust the process yourself. You’ll gain exposure to regulatory sampling, chain-of-custody work and permit compliance, which most operators never get to touch. For someone who wants to grow toward wastewater operations, EHS or environmental compliance, this is a strong next step at a stable, established manufacturer.
What You’ll Be Doing
Keep automated degreasing systems running so metal parts consistently meet strict quality and production standards.
Keep bath chemistry on target by running and documenting titrations and adjusting chemical feeds and pumps from your results.
Keep spray nozzles, risers, screens, flow meters and level sensors clean and working, including inspections inside the degreaser housing.
Run continuous and batch wastewater treatment, including chemical precipitation, pH adjustment, oil and grease separation and sludge dewatering.
Find the right chemical dosages through pH testing, jar testing and process control measurements.
Protect the facility’s permits by collecting compliance samples, preparing chain-of-custody documentation and coordinating with certified third-party labs.
Operate and maintain plate-and-frame filter presses, and manage sludge from generation through disposal coordination.
Keep production running without interruption by receiving, staging and inventorying chemicals and coordinating reorders.
Keep instruments accurate and equipment reliable through calibration, preventive maintenance on metering pumps and feed lines, and troubleshooting.
Keep clean, accurate records, and escalate any permit deviation, leak or release right away.
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma or GED.
1 to 3 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing or processing environment.
A working understanding of basic chemistry, pH neutralization and precipitation reactions.
Comfort with wet titrations, bench testing and instrument calibration.
Strong mechanical aptitude, especially with pumps, piping and chemical feed systems.
Comfort with Excel, Outlook and digital logbooks.
Self-direction, reliability and a sharp eye for detail.
Ability to work 8 to 12 hour shifts on your feet, lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and catwalks, work in tight spaces and wear chemical PPE.
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience with industrial wastewater treatment, filter presses, or aqueous parts-washing and metal-finishing systems.
Vocational training in wastewater, chemistry, environmental science or industrial maintenance.
Forklift/PIT certification, OSHA HAZCOM or 24/40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
Compensation & Work Model
$20 to $25 per hour
Full-time, onsite
Location & Travel
Onsite at an industrial manufacturing facility in Eclectic, Alabama.
