Truck Technician (Licensed) — Weekend Shift, Heavy-Duty Fleet | Winnipeg, MB
This role may also be known as:
- Truck and Transport Mechanic
- Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician
- Commercial Transport Truck Technician
- Fleet Maintenance Technician
This isn't a run-of-the-mill fleet job. You'll be working with a well-established national transportation company backed by a major rail and logistics group, which means serious stability without the cold, corporate feel. The shop is technology-driven, the fleet is diverse, and the leadership team genuinely invests in the people on the floor.
You'll have exposure to a wide variety of makes and models, mentorship pathways toward lead-hand progression, and a company that reimburses courses when they apply to your daily work.
This role is on the
Weekend Shift: Friday to Sunday, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM. That's a full week's work in three days, leaving you Monday through Thursday free. And if relocation is what it takes to get the right person in the door, they're open to that conversation.
Why This Opportunity Is Different Most technician postings offer a wage range and a bullet list of tasks. This one is different. A 3-day compressed weekend schedule gives you four days off every week, something very few shops can offer. On top of that, you'll get one of the most comprehensive technician compensation packages in the Winnipeg market and join a shop with a strong retention record: when people join, they don't leave. You'll work alongside experienced tradespeople in a culture built on mentorship, quality, and doing things right.
What You'll Be Doing - Performing advanced diagnostics and complex repairs across engines, drivetrains, braking systems, and auxiliary systems on a diverse heavy-duty fleet
- Completing scheduled preventative maintenance and safety inspections to OEM standards
- Managing work orders with accurate labour, parts, and technical documentation, audit-ready at all times
- Coordinating weekend shop workflow and communicating repair timelines with the supervision team
- Handling parts verification, warranty documentation, and inventory procedures
- Providing hands-on technical guidance and coaching to apprentices and junior technicians
What We're Looking For Preferred (Licensed Technicians): - Red Seal Transport Truck Technician certification or equivalent inter-provincial certification
- CVIP licence in Manitoba, with the ability to sign commercial vehicle safeties
- 3 to 7 years of in-shop heavy-duty truck maintenance experience
Also Considered (Non-Licensed Technicians): We'll also consider experienced candidates who are not yet licensed, based on their hands-on experience. At minimum, you must have completed Level 2 Truck and Transport technical training.
All Candidates: - Availability to work the weekend shift: Friday to Sunday, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Valid Driver's Licence with Air Brake certification
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (no sponsorship available)
- High school diploma
- Ability to read English instruction manuals and safety materials
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and educational verification
- Experience across multiple truck makes and models is a strong asset
- JPRO diagnostic software experience is a bonus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a genuine interest in developing others
Compensation & Benefits - $35 to $40 per hour, plus shift premium and overtime eligibility (not required)
- $500/year tool allowance | $300/year boot allowance
- Employer-paid health and dental benefits
- RRSP matching program
- Up to 10 paid sick days per year plus 3 personal days
- Vacation accrual at 4% of gross earnings
- Relocation assistance considered for the right candidate
- Work model: On-site
The Extras - 3-day weekend shift, with Monday through Thursday off every week
- Free parking and on-site cafeteria with complimentary coffee
- Annual employee barbeque
- Mentorship pathways to lead-hand progression
- Course reimbursement when applied to daily tasks,
- Forklift and First Aid certifications provided if not already held
