Estimating Engineer
London or Hampshire – Hybrid
Circa £80,000 + car allowance

The role
An opportunity has arisen for an Estimating Engineer to join the commercial and pre-construction team. This role will play a key part in pricing and tendering civils and utility projects, including power, HV/EHV cable works, substations, groundworks and wider infrastructure schemes.
You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers and supply chain partners to produce accurate, competitive tenders and support the smooth transition from bid to delivery.
Responsibilities of the Estimating Engineer:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civils, HV and EHV cable and substation projects
- Review drawings, specifications and client documentation to fully understand project scope
- Support tender submissions with pricing, programmes and supporting documentation
- Liaise with internal teams and supply chain partners to obtain accurate cost information
- Undertake site visits to assess conditions, risks and constraints
- Maintain and update cost databases, supplier rates and subcontractor pricing
- Assist with value engineering, risk reviews and alternative solutions
- Support handover of tender information to delivery teams
- Contribute to benchmarking, cost reporting and continuous improvement of estimating processes
Criteria of the Estimating Engineer: - Experienced in estimating or commercial roles within utilities, civils or infrastructure
- Confident pricing HV/EHV cable works, substations and civils packages
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Able to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Organised, methodical and comfortable managing multiple tenders and deadlines
- Commercially aware with a good understanding of cost drivers
- Competent using Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite
