Operations Engineer – Wastewater
Remote – UK sites
£55,000 + vehicle + healthy benefits package
Fourblue are seeking an Operations Engineer to join a leading utility-focused team, responsible for ensuring the construction, operation, and maintenance of wastewater networks are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry standards. This role is central to maintaining operational reliability, service quality, and regulatory compliance, while building strong relationships with developers, contractors, and service providers.
Role Purpose:
The Operations Engineer will oversee the day-to-day management of wastewater network projects, from construction through to adoption, ensuring that standards for safety, quality, and compliance are consistently met. The role involves leading operational teams, completing asset inspections, resolving non-conformance reports, and supporting the adoption of assets across sites in England and Wales. While primarily home-based, the role requires regular site visits to both live and in-construction networks.
Responsibilities of the Operations Engineer:
- Act as the technical authority for wastewater network operations, ensuring assets are constructed and maintained in line with operational policies and standards
- Provide guidance and support during the onboarding of new developers and service providers, ensuring required competencies and accreditations are in place
- Monitor and audit contractors, service providers, and customers to ensure safety, competence, and compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation
- Engage with stakeholders to provide technical advice and updates on regulatory and industry changes
- Inspect assets during pre-construction, construction, and post-commissioning stages to ensure safe and efficient adoption of networks
- Support the development of maintenance programmes for wastewater assets, ensuring service providers deliver safe and compliant operations
- Offer value engineering solutions to improve network construction, operation, and maintenance efficiency
- Liaise with incumbent water companies as needed to resolve design or construction delays
- Participate in out-of-hours standby rotations across utility sectors as required.
Criteria for the Operations Engineer: - Extensive experience in wastewater network distribution, including design, construction, operation, and maintenance
- Experience in developer services or sewer construction is highly desirable
- Knowledge of materials selection, procurement, and management of contractors and construction partners
- Knowledge and understanding of S104 sewer adoption processes
