The Office for Safeguarding Services plays a critical role in developing, implementing and strengthening safeguarding standards, policies and practices across the Archdiocese.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and capable Safeguarding Lead to join the Office for Safeguarding Services in a full-time permanent capacity.
Reporting to the Director, Office for Safeguarding Services, you will provide expert safeguarding advice, lead complex safeguarding responses, and drive compliance and capability across the Archdiocese. This role acts as a key escalation point for safeguarding matters and plays a critical role in policy development, audits, training, and strategic safeguarding initiatives.
This position requires sound judgement, strong leadership capability, and the ability to manage highly sensitive and complex matters with professionalism and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert safeguarding advice and guidance aligned with legislation, standards, and organisational policy
- Lead the development and review of safeguarding policies, procedures, and resources
- Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, disclosures, incidents, and complaints
- Plan, conduct and report on safeguarding audits across parishes and ministries
- Manage risk assessments and develop management plans for individuals of concern
- Design and deliver safeguarding training and capability-building initiatives
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external agencies, including statutory authorities
- Lead safeguarding projects and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supervise and support the Associate Safeguarding Advisor
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation, standards, and organisational requirements
About You You will bring:
- Preferrable to have strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, the Queensland Child Safe Standards, the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, and risk management frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in compliance, investigations, safeguarding, legal or regulatory environments
- Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience managing complex and sensitive matters with sound judgement and discretion
- High-level capability in policy development, reporting, and data analysis
- Experience delivering training and building capability across organisations
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Emotional resilience, empathy, and professional integrity
- A commitment to working within a faith-based environment
Qualifications & Requirements - Relevant qualifications in safeguarding, child protection, criminology, law, or related fields (or equivalent experience)
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (desirable)
- Experience in auditing, quality assurance or risk management (desirable)
- Current Working with Children Blue Card and Police Check (or ability to obtain)
- Current Open Driver's Licence
- Willingness to travel within South East Queensland
- Capacity to work occasional evenings or weekends as required
