Role: Tank Fitter / Pressure Vessel Pipe Fitter
Location: Georgetown, SC
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Tank Fitter / Pressure Vessel Pipe Fitter with a strong background in the fabrication, fit-up, and assembly of pressure vessels, tanks, process piping, and heavy industrial equipment.
This is not a commercial plumbing position. The ideal candidate is a skilled industrial fabricator who has spent significant time working with ASME pressure vessels, fabricated tanks, process equipment, skids, piping systems, or similar heavy industrial assemblies.
The Tank Fitter will work from engineered drawings and fabrication specifications to lay out, fit, assemble, and prepare pressure vessels, tanks, piping, structural components, and related equipment for welding and final assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fit and assemble pressure vessels, tanks, piping systems, nozzles, flanges, fittings, structural supports, and related components.
- Perform layout and fit-up of vessel shells, heads, nozzles, manways, reinforcement pads, flanges, pipe connections, and structural attachments.
- Fit carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials used in industrial pressure-vessel and process-equipment fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, P&IDs, piping isometrics, weld symbols, and dimensional specifications.
- Accurately measure, mark, cut, bevel, position, and fit components prior to welding.
- Perform pipe fit-up involving elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, valves, and other piping components.
- Calculate and verify dimensions, angles, offsets, centerlines, elevations, and component orientation.
- Use levels, squares, tape measures, combination squares, center finders, grinders, cutting equipment, and other fabrication tools.
- Tack weld components as required to maintain proper alignment and dimensions prior to final welding.
- Verify vessel and piping assemblies meet dimensional tolerances and fabrication requirements.
- Work closely with welders, fabricators, quality personnel, and manufacturing leadership throughout the fabrication process.
- Assist with pressure-vessel and piping-system assembly, hydrostatic testing, inspection, and final preparation as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe fabrication work area and follow established safety and quality procedures.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of industrial fitting/fabrication experience preferred.
- Strong preference for candidates with substantial experience working with pressure vessels, tanks, boilers, process equipment, heat exchangers, or similar fabricated equipment.
- Significant experience with industrial pipe fitting and vessel fit-up.
- Ability to independently read and work from fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Strong understanding of pipe sizes, schedules, fittings, flanges, valves, and industrial piping components.
- Experience performing precise layout, measurement, fit-up, and alignment.
- Ability to understand weld symbols and prepare assemblies for welding.
- Experience working with carbon steel and/or stainless steel.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to dimensional accuracy.
Highly Preferred
Experience in one or more of the following environments is especially valuable:
- ASME pressure-vessel fabrication
- Tank manufacturing
- Boiler fabrication
- Heat exchanger fabrication
- Skid-mounted process equipment
- Petrochemical or refinery equipment
- Chemical processing equipment
- Industrial piping fabrication
- Modular process systems
- Power-generation equipment
- Heavy industrial fabrication shops
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an industrial fabrication/shop environment.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work around large fabricated assemblies.
- Ability to safely lift and position materials and components with appropriate equipment.
- Comfortable working around welding, grinding, cutting, cranes, rigging, and other industrial fabrication activities.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to join an established engineering and manufacturing environment producing sophisticated custom equipment and modular systems.
The position offers experienced industrial craftsmen the opportunity to apply their pressure-vessel, piping, and fabrication expertise to complex engineered projects rather than repetitive production work.
