Job Title: Independent Gas Meter Installation Contractor

Job Summary:
Our client is seeking reliable and mechanically inclined independent contractors to perform residential and small commercial gas meter installations and stand-alone appliance relights throughout British Columbia. Stand-alone relights involve returning to a customer's home to safely relight gas appliances, such as furnaces and hot water tanks. This opportunity is ideal for licensed gas fitters, plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, utility contractors, mechanical tradespeople, and other mechanically inclined individuals looking to grow their business through contract work. Previous gas meter installation experience is an asset but is not required. Comprehensive training is provided. Contractors are compensated on a piecework basis with excellent earning potential. Most work is completed within the contractor's local area, although optional opportunities to travel to other British Columbia project locations may occasionally be available.
This is an independent contractor opportunity. Successful applicants must operate through their own business and be responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, and business obligations associated with operating as an independent contractor.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation:
- Install residential and small commercial gas meters.
- Conduct safety inspections and leak tests.
- Ensure compliance with utility and quality standards and safety regulations.
- Use hand tools and complete quality installations.
Customer Service: - Interact professionally with customers.
- Explain the installation process.
- Address customer concerns appropriately.
Documentation and Reporting: - Complete digital work orders.
- Document installation activities accurately.
- Maintain records of completed work.
Safety and Quality: - Follow Metercor safety and quality policies.
- Wear required PPE.
- Participate in required training.

Contractor Requirements: - A valid Canada Revenue Agency Business Number (BN) and GST registration
- Be legally entitled to perform contract work in British Columbia.
- Be responsible for all business expenses, taxes, GST (where applicable), and other statutory obligations.
- Maintain their own vehicle suitable for the work including fuel, operating costs and valid driver's license
- Smartphone or compatible device
- Provide their own tools (or purchase required tools from Metercor at cost).
- Carry any insurance required to operate their business (if applicable).
- Professional customer service
- Required PPE other than the uniform
Qualifications: Experience
- Mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, pipefitting, utility or related experience is an asset.
- Class B Gas Ticket is an asset but not required.
Skills and Competencies: - Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently.
- Customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable with handheld technology.
Training Program: - Comprehensive training on installation procedures, safety protocols and customer service.
- Hands-on field mentoring with experienced personnel.
Working Conditions: - Environment:
- Outdoor work in varying weather.
- Physical work including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Travel opportunities may be available but are not required.
Compensation: Contractors are paid on a piecework basis, earning an average $60 or more per completed meter and an average $40 or more for a completed stand alone appliance relight.
Potential Earnings Complete approximately 8-12 meters per day and earn approximately $480-$720+ per day. High-performing contractors can earn significantly more based on productivity.
