The
BOM & Planning Analyst plays a foundational role within the Central Planning & Optimization team, responsible for the accurate creation, maintenance, and governance of Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the organization's ERP system. Accurate BOMs are critical to the integrity of manufacturing output, standard costing, and pricing, making this role central to the smooth functioning of the business.
The successful candidate will develop a broad understanding of production processes, routing structures, and planning systems. This role is well-suited to a motivated individual who is analytically strong, comfortable working with large datasets, and able to communicate clearly with colleagues across various functions.
Key Responsibilities - Primary Responsibilities - BOM Creation & Maintenance
- Create and maintain BOMs within the ERP system, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all product lines.
- Conduct structured verification of BOMs to identify and resolve discrepancies, including structural integrity checks, component accuracy reviews, and check the impact of any changes before putting them live.
- Collaborate with production and finance teams to gather the information required to build and validate BOM structures.
- Support the ongoing ERP data quality program, including the identification of missing, duplicated, or incorrectly structured BOM records.
- Maintain version control and change history for BOMs, ensuring an auditable trail of amendments.
- Prioritization of BOM reviews to focus effort on the highest impact products.
- Liaise with the Finance team to ensure BOM data underpins accurate standard costing for pricing purposes.
- Contribute to the development of BOM governance processes and data entry standards to ensure consistency across sites.
Additional Responsibilities - Planning Team Support - Be open and available to help support the planning team on various activities such as maintenance of routings, capacity analysis, and production targets.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and analyses that support planning decision making across the team.
- Participate in cross-functional planning reviews, bringing data-led insights to discussions with production and operational teams.
- Assist in identifying and documenting planning pain points where data quality or system limitations are contributing factors.
Requirements Person Requirements - Strong numerical aptitude and comfort working with large, complex datasets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with structured data, formulas, and data validation.
- Excellent attention to detail with a methodical and structured approach to problem-solving.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across departments and levels of seniority.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work to deadlines, and escalate issues appropriately.
- A proactive, inquisitive mindset with a genuine interest in manufacturing operations and data quality.
Desirable - Degree level education, preferably in a numerate or analytical discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or similar).
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or equivalent).
- Exposure to manufacturing environments.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Power Query, Power BI, or SQL.
- Understanding of standard costing, BOMs, or routing concepts within a manufacturing context.
