Our client, a well-established and growing manufacturing company in Western New York, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their Supply Chain team!
This is an on-site/full-time/6-month contract-hire position
Salary range based on experience: Up to $40/HR
This is an excellent opportunity for a purchasing professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys balancing strategic sourcing, supplier relationships, and production planning. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring materials and services are available to support production while driving cost savings, supplier performance, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement of raw materials, components, equipment, and services to support production requirements.
- Analyze ERP/MRP demand and production schedules to maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Create, modify, and manage purchase orders while ensuring timely supplier deliveries.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, contracts, and delivery schedules with domestic and international suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier performance and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, receiving, and finance teams to resolve material shortages, delivery issues, and invoice discrepancies.
- Support sourcing initiatives, new product introductions, and product lifecycle changes.
- Monitor purchasing metrics and prepare reports to support supply chain performance.
- Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records while ensuring ethical procurement practices.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or material planning experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production planning.
- Experience with supplier negotiations, RFQs, purchase orders, and inventory management.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
