Our client in Farmingdale, NY, is looking for a CNC Machinist to join their growing team!
This is an on-site/full-time/direct hire position
Salary range based on experience: Up to $40/HR
About the Role
The Machinist role provides a structured career path from Trainee through Machinist Supervisor, with increasing responsibility, technical complexity, leadership scope, and operational impact. This position supports the precision machining of low- to high-complexity aerospace components using CNC milling and turning centers.
Key Responsibilities
Common Responsibilities (All Levels)
- Review drawings, specifications, and work instructions before machining
- Produce quality parts that meet all drawing and documented requirements
- Operate one or more CNC machines concurrently, as appropriate to the level
- Use calibrated precision measuring instruments and gauges for in-process inspection
- Record labor time and quantities produced in Work Orders and ERP systems
- Maintain accurate and complete production documentation
- Deburr and clean parts using approved techniques
- Maintain clean, organized, and FOD-free work areas
- Report nonconforming material or questionable conditions
- Assist with machine maintenance as required
- Follow all safety guidelines, company policies, and quality standards
- Demonstrate positive working relationships and teamwork
- Suggest and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
- May require additional hours beyond normal business hours
- Travel may be required for training, skill development, or business needs
Level-Specific Responsibilities Machinist Trainee - Work under direct supervision on low-complexity parts
- Learn CNC machine operation, tooling, gauging, and basic setups
- Inspect parts using basic preset measuring instruments
- Gain familiarity with ERP systems, documentation, and shop procedures
Machinist 3rd Class - Work under direct supervision with increasing independence
- Machine low-complexity parts to specification
- Consistently produce accurate work with minimal rework
- Perform basic inspections and operate CMM/Vision systems as directed
Machinist 2nd Class - Work under general supervision on medium- to high-complexity parts
- Set up, run, and monitor machines, including speeds and feeds
- Inspect first pieces before Lead review and inspect own work throughout jobs
- Retrieve tooling and gauging as required
- Download and upload programs via DNC systems
- Identify machining issues and work with Leads to resolve barriers
Machinist 1st Class - Work under minimal supervision on the highest complexity parts
- Independently set up, run, and adjust CNC machine centers
- Optimize feeds, speeds, tool life, and processes
- Perform advanced inspections using all measuring equipment and CMM/Vision systems
- Assist Leads with oversight of lower-level machinists
- Support standardization and improvement of work instructions
- Anticipate and resolve production challenges independently
