Location: Wollongong / Illawarra Region Rate: $55.00 – $60.00 per hour + Super Work Type: Ongoing Casual (Path to Permanent)

The Opportunity - Plant Mechanic

Are you a mechanical all-rounder looking to break into the high-demand rail industry? We are seeking a reliable Plant Mechanic to join a leading rail contractor in the Wollongong region.

You will start based in the local yard, getting to know the specialized fleet, with the long-term goal of transitioning into a permanent position maintaining critical rail infrastructure.

The Role - Plant Mechanic

• Yard Operations: Routine servicing, pre-start checks, and minor repairs on a variety of plant equipment.
• Mechanical & Hydraulics: Troubleshooting and repairing basic hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and mechanical drive trains.
• Rail Upskilling: We don't expect you to be a rail expert on day one. We will provide the necessary training and certifications (RIW/Safeworking) for the right candidate.

What You Bring - Plant Mechanic

• Trade Qualified: Certificate III in Mechanical fitting, Heavy Vehicle, Mobile Plant, or Agricultural Mechanical
• Diagnostic Skills: A solid understanding of basic hydraulics and mechanical systems.
• Reliability: A "yard-first" mentality—willing to put in the hard work locally to earn the spot in the corridor.
