Registered Nurse (Neuro Scrub)

The Opportunity
This specialised Neuro Scrub Nurse role is responsible for delivering advanced perioperative nursing care across neurological and ENT procedures. The successful candidate will support the theatre team, manage specialised neuro equipment, and ensure safe, evidence-based patient care within a dynamic surgical environment.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Provide advanced scrub expertise for neurological surgery, including cranial, intracranial, and spinal procedures.
• Competently operate and manage neuro equipment such as microscopes, spinal beds, and CUSA devices.
• Assist with ENT surgical procedures as required.
• Serve as a clinical resource for planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Ensure effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation and participate in physician rounds and care plan development.
• Initiate and support emergency treatment (RESUS) within scope of practice.
• Contribute to policy development, quality assurance, and risk management initiatives.
• Support training, mentoring, and development of nursing staff and students.
• Promote teamwork and collaboration across hospital departments.
• Ensure efficient allocation of resources and maintain a safe, clean environment.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and stay updated on evolving clinical practices and digital systems.

 
Requirements

• Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Competency in all neurological scrub procedures.
• In-depth knowledge of cranial, intracranial, and spinal surgeries.
• Ability to operate neuro-specialised theatre equipment (Microscope, Spinal Bed, CUSA).
• Experience with ENT procedures is essential.
• Strong understanding of modern and specialised nursing principles.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making skills.
