The opportunity
This role is suited to a NICU-qualified Registered Nurse with strong neonatal experience and a passion for providing high-quality care to premature and critically ill newborns. You will play a vital role in assessing, planning, and implementing specialised neonatal care, ensuring the highest standards of safety and clinical best practice.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver specialised nursing care to premature and critically ill neonates.
- Conduct thorough assessments and implement individualised care plans.
- Monitor vital signs, administer treatments, and manage specialised neonatal equipment.
- Collaborate with paediatricians and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Provide emotional support and education to parents and families.
- Maintain accurate, detailed documentation and ensure smooth handovers.
- Uphold infection prevention and control standards within the NICU.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives.
Requirements - Relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in Nursing or BCur Degree).
- NICU post-basic qualification (alternatively ICU trained with NICU experience).
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Minimum of 1 year's experience in private healthcare is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of neonatal clinical protocols and NICU equipment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Computer literate.
- Physically and mentally able to meet the demands of NICU care.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care.
