About the Role:
Are you a skilled and experienced highways engineer seeking an opportunity to lead and deliver impactful infrastructure projects? Join my client as a Senior Highways Engineer within our Highway Maintenance team. You’ll play a pivotal role in managing, planning, and delivering our Planned Highway Maintenance programs, ensuring the safety and quality of our roads while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Principal Highway Engineers in planning and implementing highway maintenance works in South London.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of planned highway maintenance, collaborating with contractors and service providers to ensure high standards.
• Inspect and assess highway defects, recommending remedial actions and managing the repair process through to completion.
• Measure and agree on payment applications made by contractors.
• Supervise works on public highways, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and safety standards.
• Monitor contractors’ performance, chair meetings, and produce detailed site reports.

Essential Skill

• A professional qualification in Civil or Highway Engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and CDM regulations relevant to highway maintenance.
• Proven experience in contract management and delivering highway maintenance projects.
• Strong IT skills and familiarity with general applications used in the industry.
• Exceptional communication skills, with confidence in engaging with stakeholders, contractors, and the public.
• The ability to manage workloads effectively, work independently, and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience in local government is desirable but not essential.
