Centacare Specialist Family Support Services (SFSS) is a non-profit community organisation that supports the strengthening of family and community relationships, particularly where there is vulnerability or disadvantage.  Our services are available to the entire community regardless of religion, circumstance, ethnicity, economic situation, age or ability. The role:

We are currently seeking an experienced Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner to join our team based in Hervey Bay on a Permanent Full-Time basis. In this role, you will be providing intake, counselling, and working with children who have experienced domestic and family violence. This involves partnering with vulnerable families using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and solution-focused approach to assist them to thrive in a future free of violence and abuse.
  
Key Duties:

• Completing client intakes, including initial risk assessment and safety planning.
• Provide counselling to a diverse range of stakeholders including the provision of psychoeducation, crisis counselling and intervention, and group facilitation for children, couples, adults and families.
• Provide safe, age appropriate, developmentally sound, evidence-based work with children and young people as required and ensure a safe and supportive environment for them in all aspects of the role.
• Supporting the identification of goals and immediate needs to assist and increase in safety and recovery.
• Advocating on behalf of women and children experiencing violence and abuse, making suitable referrals, assessing eligibility for safety upgrades as well as other forms of practical assistance.
• Participating in meetings and liaising with other local stakeholders, e.g., Child Safety.

Skills and Experience:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution (including eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA) – MANDATORY.
• Well-developed understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act and Family Law Act, as well as the issues and the impacts on families engaged in these systems.
• Demonstrated articulation of a well-developed practice framework for domestic and family violence.
• Knowledge, skills and experience in the provision of brief, solution-focused counselling and psycho-educational and therapeutic groups for woman and children impacted by domestic and family violence.
• Knowledge, skills and experience in the provision of trauma informed care, triaging crisis, a good understanding of risk management and the ability to work under pressure.
• Well-developed written work including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy skills.
• Highly effective communication, with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to advocate for our clients’ needs with other statutory organisations/ departments
• Have a high degree of professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders
• Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.

Other requirements:

• Current (or eligibility for) QLD Working with Children Check – or be eligible to apply.
• Evidence of Australian Work Rights to confirm citizenship or a visa holder.
• Current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check.
• Have a current driver’s licence.
