THE ORGANISATION MONSU Caulfield represents and supports more than 10,000 undergraduate students through advocacy, welfare services, events, programs and student representation. As a not‑for‑profit organisation run by students, for students, MONSU is committed to ensuring students have a positive, supportive and inclusive university experience.
Working closely with elected Student Council representatives and university stakeholders, the organisation provides advocacy and support services that address academic concerns, wellbeing, equity and broader systemic issues affecting students.
THE ROLE Reporting to the General Manager, the Student Support & Advocacy Manager leads the delivery of student advocacy and support services across the Caulfield and Peninsula campus. This is a highly student‑focused role where listening to students and understanding their experiences is central to success. You will lead the delivery of advocacy and support services that ensure students feel heard, respected and supported when navigating academic, wellbeing and administrative challenges.
The role also plays an important part in identifying systemic issues affecting students and working collaboratively with stakeholders across the university to improve the overall student experience. This role is well suited to professionals with experience in student advocacy, higher education support services or community‑based advocacy roles who are passionate about supporting students and improving outcomes across the university environment.
You will also support and guide the Student Support & Advocacy Officers while overseeing complex advocacy matters and contributing to the continuous improvement of services. The role is primarily campus‑based with flexibility to work from home two days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead the delivery of student advocacy, advice and referral services
- Support and supervise the Student Support & Advocacy Officers
- Oversee complex student cases and critical incidents
- Develop workshops, messaging and communications around student issues
- Work closely with Student Council and university stakeholders
- Use feedback and service data to strengthen advocacy services
- Ensure services remain student‑centred and responsive to student needs
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - Degree in education, community services or a related discipline preferred
- Experience in advocacy within the education or community sector
- Experience managing complex and sensitive cases
- Demonstrated ability to support or supervise staff or casework
- Strong understanding of trauma‑informed and culturally safe practice
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting students and improving their experience
- A Working With Children Check will be required for this role.
