Community and Home Care Support Worker - Melbourne - Loreto Sisters

This position is focused on supporting the Victorian-based community of Loreto Sisters.
The Role Reporting to the Province Health & Wellbeing Coordinator and working as part of the Health & Wellbeing Team, this role provides practical, hands-on support to Victorian-based Loreto Sisters — both those living independently and those in residential care.
This position requires someone with genuine care for others, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with a community of strong-minded, independent women. The successful candidate will be dependable, discreet and responsive to the practical and personal needs of the sisters in their care.
Key Responsibilities For sisters living in private residences:
- Assistance with showering and dressing as needed
- Home duties including bed linen changes and washing
- Personal clothes washing and maintenance, including facilitating dry cleaning, repair or replacement
- Food shopping for individuals or for a shared pantry
- Cooking meals for individual sisters or for sharing where possible
For sisters living in residential facilities:
- Visiting sisters and attending to their clothing and room tidiness
- Responding to personal requirements including laundry, food, provisions and transport needs
- Keeping a diary of interactions with residential facility staff and providing updates to the Province Health & Wellbeing Coordinator
For all sisters receiving support and care:
- Visiting sisters in hospital and attending to their clothing and toiletry needs
- Driving sisters to non-medical appointments, personal shopping or social events
- Encouraging sisters to participate in local activities and socialise with one another regularly
- Providing the Health & Wellbeing Team with regular verbal or written updates on the health and welfare of the sisters, and reporting any concerns immediately
- Being alert and responsive to any needs that arise throughout the day
Skills and Experience You will have experience working in a community services, aged care or care support role, and will bring a calm, professional and compassionate approach to your work.
You will bring:
- Deep respect for the values and ethos of Loreto and the traditions of the Loreto community
- Certificate III in Community Services
- Current First Aid certificate
- Current Victorian Working with Children Check
- Current police check
- Current driver's licence and ownership of a reliable, fully maintained, registered and insured vehicle
- The ability to develop appropriate and effective relationships built on trust and confidentiality
- High-level interpersonal skills with sound judgement, compassion and empathy
- The ability to read and adapt to a range of personalities
- A proactive approach and alertness to the personal and practical needs of others
- Demonstrated ability to take accurate notes and pass on clear messages
- Proof of right to work in Australia
Desirable:
- Basic knowledge of or qualifications in nursing practices or counselling
- Ability to accompany sisters to medical appointments, take notes and ask relevant questions
Remuneration & Conditions
- $38 per hour plus superannuation
- Kilometre reimbursement provided for travel between locations
- Salary packaging available (NFP rebatable benefits)
