About the Team
Within our disputes team we have a specialist property disputes team led by our partners, Martin Deutsch and Duncan Myers. The team boasts an impressive client portfolio of publicly listed and multi-national corporations, including some of Australia’s largest shopping centre owners and landlords, property funds and developers.
The range of work undertaken by the team includes:
- Acting for large landlords and property managers on a broad range of property disputes and commercial and retail leasing disputes, including in relation to:
- responding to misrepresentation and unconscionable conduct claims
- refurbishment, relocation and demolition claims
- termination and make good, abandonment of premises and third party property claims
- advising in relation to enforcement rights for breach of lease
- responding to urgent interlocutory applications for relief against forfeiture
- contract interpretation and the application of retail leases legislation
- issuing statutory notices
- advising on insolvency appointments and external administration
- Conducting litigation in State and Federal Courts and NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal (NCAT)
- Participating in mandated alternative dispute resolution processes through mediation and conciliation
- Disputes arising out of sale and acquisition of land
- Franchising disputes
About the Role The team are seeking an experienced associate or junior SA with at least 4 years PAE who is passionate about advancing their career as a property disputes lawyer within our firm.
Your role in the team will see you working on a variety of complex and often multifaceted legal matters with a focus on property and leasing based disputes. This is a fast paced and interesting role that offers an exciting opportunity for a career professional to progress their legal career and develop a specialisation in property disputes, in a supportive environment alongside leading lawyers in the field.
Given the post admission experience sought you will have had the opportunity to have a level of autonomy on files, with the appropriate level of partner oversight.
About You You will have gained your experience working within a well-regarded dispute practice where you will have had the opportunity to develop your drafting skills, demonstrate excellent research and communication skills.
You will appreciate the importance of providing excellent client service and will enjoy a busy and client focused work environment.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess experience across a range of disputes including property disputes
- Experience in court appearance work
- Significant experience in drafting evidence and pleadings
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A strong desire to work as a collaborative member of a team, including mentoring of less experienced lawyers in the practice
- Comfortable working closely with clients and in managing disputes
- Adept at managing multiple matters and prioritising effectively
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-driven with a strong ability to meet deadlines.
