About the team
Within our Corporate & Commercial group in Sydney we have a thriving non-bank lending practice, with a particular focus on property finance transactions. The team represents a number of leading private lenders across a broad range of facility types, including landbanking, construction, residual stock, mezzanine and syndicated loans.
The practice is led by a Partner and Senior Associate that take pride in supporting and mentoring their team. As this practice continues to grow we are looking for a finance paralegal to join the team. This position will see you working on transactions in NSW, VIC and QLD.
About the role
The team primarily acts for lenders but there is also a healthy mix of borrower-side work for our property developer clients.
The role will involve working on matters from client instruction through to settlement with your day to day duties including, but not limited, to the following:
- Undertaking conflict checks and accepting client instructions
- File opening
- Preparing draft transaction documents, including facility agreements, real property mortgages, general security agreements and ancillary documents
- Issuing draft transaction documents
- Coordinating the execution of transaction documents
- Liaising with clients and counterparties to satisfy conditions precedent
- Coordinating PEXA settlements
- Billing (including dealing with trust funds)
You must appreciate the important of providing our clients with exceptional customer service.
In addition to these tasks it is envisaged that the role will also take on responsibility for corporate compliance / ASIC lodgements across our national Corporate & Commercial team (we will provide training in this regard).
As our non-bank lending practice sits within our Corporate & Commercial team, from time to time there will also be opportunities to get involved in the finance and security aspects of M&A transactions.
About you You may be undertaking a similar finance paralegal, or a conveyancing clerk, role in private practice. Alternatively you may be working with a non-bank lender in a settlements officer / credit administration role and seeking to make the move into a law firm.
We are not wedded to this person having experience working in a law firm, of greater importance is a good understanding of property lending and the process involved in such transactions.
Given the nature of the role we are seeking someone with the following skills and experience:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong stakeholder engagement
- Planning and organisational skills
- Minimum of 2 years experience in similar role whether in a law firm or with a lender
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple files
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with document management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with PEXA (preferred but not essential)
The nature of the matters requires the established turnaround times are adhered too and therefore you will have excellent time management skills.
