About the role

We're looking for a Senior Chartered Accountant to join our Nelson team working across Business Advisory and Tax. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of clients, delivery high-quality annual compliance and tax advice while also supporting business advisory work. You will assist with coaching and reviewing the work of other team members and contribute to the delivery of excellent client experiences. 

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review annual financial statements and income tax returns for a range of entities
• Deliver tax advisory and support, management reporting and client ready recommendations
• Manage and grow client relationships - communicate clearly, anticipate needs and deliver on time with attention to detail
• Coach, review and support the development of junior and intermediate accountants

What BDO are looking for

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strong technical capability, great communication skills, and a client-first mindset. Ideally, you’ll have:

• CA qualified (or equivalent) with solid experience in an NZ public practice environment
• Proven capability across income tax compliance and a strong working knowledge of NZ tax (including GST and provisional tax)
• Strong review skills with the ability to ensure quality, accuracy and consistency across files
• Excellent relationship and communication skills—comfortable dealing directly with business owners and key decision makers
• A proactive, collaborative approach and an interest in mentoring others
• An understanding and be able to use AI support tools.
